Not A Fan Talk
Noope, never been a fan of Tarantino. A funny trend — all IT guys I talked with love his movies and I discovered Q.T. preeeetty late. Last year I watched Django Unchained and was fascinated. I’ve always tried to avoid seeing blood in any movie which makes me sick and scared. Tarantino is not about blood, little I knew about that then.
So this year I waited for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, I admit, just because there was a lot of noise around this ninth work of Quentin and its premiere at Cannes. To get more idea of Tarantino’s movies I watched both parts of Kill Bill just a couple of days earlier)) Yeap, some good things come late. Today I also unpacked a genre of black comedy with Pulp Fiction, what’s next… Reservoir Dogs or Inglourious Basterds? Too many good recommendations on his movies that I’ll probably have to toss a coin which one will be next to watch.
Back to Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. They say it expresses Quentin’s nostalgic feelings toward L.A in 1960’s. It was interesting to see how Hollywood looked like then, even that it’s not a documentary. That recognized Tarantino style is saved: the 2-hour plus movie has a multi-linear plot, plenty of interwoven details, blend of elegance and brutal humor, lovely conversational scenes with a pleasant portion of philosophy…of course bloody-messy culminations.
My colleagues were not in such delight from the movie than I was, though. “His earlier movies were better, this one was just OK”. I laughed. I sincerely enjoyed this one. I even don’t mention a handsome duo of DiCaprio and Pitt haha. No spoilers.
Quentin, I’m looking forward to the 10th one.
